Message 1) You can buy new ones but about $400
2) You can buy new clips for the moldings from Coz and then take the moldings off and repaint with dupli-color trim paint and then put them back on
3) You can get denatured alcohol, apply it on a used sock and rub it on the moldings and get the grim off.

I highly recommend before you take drastic measures use the denatured alcohol and rub the grim off and see how it turns out. It will turn the moldings back to original color and make them dark again.

The repaint is recommended for people who their molding has chipped off (the moldings have plastic coating on them) and the bare metal is showing.

If you use denatured alcohol, rub on the moldings and as soon as you feel that the moldings are getting gooey and soft just stop and let it dry and then start again. If you start seeing that residue is getting stuck in the plastic then stop and let the molding dry and them pick the residue off with your fingers. I used denatured alcohol and my moldings look 100% better and i don't worry about them anymore. As far as i know the denatured alcohol won't hurt paint but will take off your coat of wax.

I personally did the denatured alcohol on the t-top moldings, the back little strip moldings, the back window seal, the pass and driver side window molding and the 1/4 window moldings. I took off the pillar (windshield) moldings and repainted them with dupli-color trim paint and then reapplied the molding with new clips I bought from Coz. The moldings i used the alcohol on and the moldings i repainted look closely identical so once again i highley recommend you to use the denatured alcohol first and then move on to other steps if you don't like the outcome.

And next time when you are giving your car a wax job, tape up the moldings so you don't get wax on them. The wax is what dries and turns the moldings white.

I have nightmares about that happening...I'd be the poor bastard you'd hear about on the news that gets killed by a softball-size chunk while spreading out my body over the hood and screaming "Nooo!" (Having a conversation about hail damage) - BradZ (FL) on March 25, 2005 at 9:56 PM

Tell your friend that you could take a dump, light it on fire and that would be hotter shit than his car. Probes suck, that's just all there is to it. - 300ZXpert (someday) on April 04, 2005 at 11:35 PM
